Awe-inspiring in a plethora of colors, HAHALULU reincarnates as “sky lanterns” or “Kǒngmíng lanterns.”
“For me, sky lanterns are distinctly Oriental and very romantic,” says Chan, “Lovers would write love notes onto the lanterns and let their messages soar to the sky, hoping their wishes come true as the lanterns float skywards.”

About the Artist
Dennis Chan
Dennis is the founder and creative director of Qeelin, China’s first luxury jewelry brand. Following his design education in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dennis began his career as a designer in London.
Over the years, Dennis has been continuously challenging himself on multi disciplinary designs. He believes that design has no boundaries, and his move to luxury jewellery design is the natural extension of his lifelong passion for exquisite timepieces and fine jewellery.
Chan is internationally recognised for his magnificent re-creation of the Chinese “hulu”, a legendary gourd with magical powers and a symbol of blessing and protection, into fine jewellery brand Qeelin’s most original and iconic design. Now Chan plays on the hulu theme for his own artistic pursuits, and hence HAHALULU is born.
HAHALULU is a vibrant-hued hulu-shaped figure with bright round eyes. Whether it’s presented as 3-dimensional gigantic sculptures or miniature art, or 2-dimensional prints, HAHALULU immediately brings a smile to everyone’s faces – exactly as Chan intended because
“HAHA” stands for “happiness” and “harmony”.

About the Art
The blending of tradition and culture with modernity
HAHALULU takes the shape of a gourd, a plant that bears significance in Chinese culture. Dennis used the plant as a medium to express many beautiful concepts, such as longevity, auspiciousness, and good fortune.
The HAHALULU series of works continue the consistent style of Dennis’ other series, HaHaPanda, and strives to find the perfect balance between Chinese tradition and contemporary art.
